DOH reports six travel-related dengue cases in Hawaii

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The Hawai‘i Department of Health has confirmed six travel-related dengue cases in the state, so far in 2024, as of Monday.

There is one case on Maui and five cases on O'ahu.

The individuals exposed to dengue acquired the virus from various locations around the world.

Symptoms of dengue:

  • Fever
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Rash
  • Severe body Aches

According to DOH, symptoms usually last two to seven days. Although severe and sometimes life threatening, most people recover after about a week.

DOH advises those who have travelled to an area where dengue is common and are experiencing symptoms to contact their healthcare provider.
