DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, Brooklyn (PIX11) -- Major streetscape upgrades are underway for Fulton Mall in Downtown Brooklyn, as part of an $8 million project aimed at enhancing the area with new trees and seating.
This initiative, a collaboration between the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership and the City Parks Department, is part of a larger $40 million plan to improve pedestrian and roadway safety.
Work will start on Fulton Street between Boerum Place and Jay Street.
Mike, a long-time Brooklyn resident, shared his thoughts on the revitalization of the bustling shopping district he frequents. "We definitely need more trees in Brooklyn," he said, emphasizing the benefits of greenery for ecology, shade, fresh air, and peace of mind.
While he appreciates the improvements in the shopping district, Mike highlighted the need for similar efforts in less affluent areas, stating, "It's nice to put it in the shopping area but we need it in the inner city, in the hood."
