MARKLEVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — An 18-year-old man, who deputies say was drunk driving, now faces several charges after crashing head-on with another vehicle in Madison County.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department says Aidan Patterson, 18, was driving on State Road 109 and County Road 200 East near Markleville around 6:30 a.m. Thursday when he crossed the centerline, entering the southbound lanes.
As a result, Patterson crashed head-on with a Jeep Wrangler, driven by 56-year-old Nancy Staley of Markleville.
The impact caused Staley to be thrown from her vehicle. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.
Patterson did not sustain any injuries. Investigators did not say if speed was an additional factor.
Following the crash, Patterson was booked into the Madison County jail on several charges:
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death.
- Obstruction of justice.
- Possession of a controlled substance.
- Possession of marijuana.
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
A court hearing for Patterson has not been set.
