ECISD Superintendent announces plan to retire after 36 years

ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) - Ector County ISD Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri has announced his intent to retire, following his 36 year career in public education.

"Serving the children, staff, and community of Ector County ISD is one of the greatest experiences of my life!  Nothing compares to the joy and excitement that the process of learning creates. It is absolutely magical! " Dr. Muri said in a statement on the school district's Facebook on Friday.

Dr. Muri was officially introduced as the Superintendent of ECISD in July 2019 after serving as the superintendent of Spring Branch Independent School District in Houston for four years. Before serving at Spring Branch ISD, Dr. Muri served as the Deputy Superintendent of Academics in Fulton County Schools in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He has also served as Area Superintendent, Zone Superintendent, and Chief Information Officer overseeing research and evaluation, along with technology infrastructure and instructional innovation at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in Charlotte.

Dr. Muri's educational experience includes time as an elementary school teacher, a middle school math/science teacher, an instructional technology specialist, and high school work as a dean of students, assistant principal and principal.
