Escambia County Animal Welfare Officers speak out after opossum injured in incorrectly set up trap

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — Animal welfare officers in Escambia County are speaking out about the dangers of certain types of animal traps after they rescued an injured opossum earlier this week.

According to a county press release, Lead Animal Welfare Officer Sgt. Merideth Roberson and Animal Welfare Officer Trainee Josh Clayton responded to help the opossum who they say was caught in a trap that was not set up correctly.

Being caught in the trap caused the opossum to have injuries to its front leg and paw, the release said.
