SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A heat dome sustaining the region's hotter-than-normal inland temperatures is finally shifting east, leading to cooler temperatures and an influx of monsoonal moisture.
Thursday marks the last day of Excessive Heat Warnings for inland valleys and mountains, but for deserts, the heat warning expires Friday evening. It still will be 8 to 12 degrees hotter than normal for many inland areas Thursday, but they likely won't see record-breaking temperatures.
The marine layer is holding strong for the coast and portions of the inland valleys after producing some dense fog earlier in the day. Stubborn clearing is expected for the majority of the region's beaches.
Daytime highs for Friday at the coast will top out in the mid 70s, mid to upper 80s for valleys, low 90s in the mountains and around 115 for the deserts.
Temperatures will gradually drop off as we head into the middle of next week.
