Exploring Lunar Life at Children's Museum of SD

BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO) -- You may not have to board a rocket ship to learn about life in space.

The Children's Museum of South Dakota has a new out-of-this-world exhibit.

6-year-old Peter Farmen visited the Lunar Life exhibit on Thursday.

What are you wearing right now?
Farmen: Space clothes.

The exhibit showcases the life of an astronaut.

Farmen's favorite feature is the microscope.

"This is some kind of spider," Farmen said.

"They really get the feel of what it is like to be on the moon. They can put on the outfits, they can put on the helmets, they can explore constellations. They can learn how to exercise and eat. About the only thing we don't do in there is really float," Children's Museum of South Dakota Director of Marketing Kerrie Vilhauer said.

SDSU faculty and students designed the exhibit.

"Their majors were early childhood education, interior design, mechanical engineering, entrepreneurial studies, advertising and marketing," SDSU Early Childhood Education Professor Kay Cutler said.
