Ferguson police chief to discuss Friday night protest at news conference

FERGUSON, Mo. – The Ferguson Police Department will hold a news conference Saturday afternoon to address a violent confrontation the night prior between police and protesters commemorating the 10th anniversary of the death of Michael Brown Jr.

A statement from a police spokesperson said officers were providing a safe space for protesters Friday evening. Police allege the peaceful protest grew agitated throughout the evening, culminating in injuries to police, as well as property damage and arrests.

Ferguson Police Chief Troy Doyle is expected to speak with the media at 2 p.m. Members of law enforcement support groups will be present with him. Chief Doyle will update the public on the arrests and injuries to officers.
