CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) -- An update on the Blue Course Drive micro-surfacing project has been provided, including a possible completion date.
Ferguson Township identified a quality control issue during the project, which requires additional repair work to be completed by the contractor. The township now expects work to be completed between Aug. 12 and 16, however, the date has yet to be confirmed.
Micro-surfacing is a preventative maintenance technique that involves applying an emulsion and aggregate mixture to the road surface. This method seals the pavement, preventing water infiltration which can cause damage through freezing and thawing cycles.
The aggregate provides necessary friction, ensuring the surface is not slippery. This maintenance method extends the lifespan of the roadway and enhances safety for drivers.
The agreement between the contractor and the Township was dated May 10, 2024, and the Notice to Proceed "Issue Date" was on June 14, 2024. Project work began Monday, June 24, and with expected completion on July 12.
