JAMAICA, Queens (PIX11) – A fire broke out at a Jamaica building early Sunday morning, injuring eight people, according to fire officials.
The fire broke out just before 3 a.m. at a two-story building on Liberty Avenue and burned until around 4:40 a.m., according to the FDNY.
As it burned, eight people were injured, including two firefighters with minor injuries, officials said. Two additional people were taken to area hospitals, and four others refused medical attention after being treated on the scene.
“Everybody [was] screaming… It was incredible, we are in shock at this moment,” one resident of the building told PIX11 News.
Neighbors said several families live in the building, and the American Red Cross was on the scene helping displaced people Sunday morning.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, according to the FDNY.
