SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. (PIX11) – Suffolk County has reported its first human case of West Nile virus this season, according to the county's health department.
A man in his 50s from the Town of Islip started experiencing symptoms of the virus on July 18 and was hospitalized. He was released in late July, health officials said.
Mild symptoms of the virus include fever, headaches and body aches. More severe symptoms include a high fever, neck stiffness, stupor, disorientation, coma, tremors, convulsions, muscle weakness and paralysis.
