FORDYCE, Ark. – Fordyce locals After a mass shooting temporarily shut down the main source of groceries for many in town.
Fordyce High School alumni came together to host a food giveaway for the community. organizers say they want to ensure there's one extra resource for people who depend on the Mad Butcher grocery store for groceries.
Organizers say the next grocery store is over 20 minutes away, so to help, one of the alumni's daughters donated more than $1,000 to ensure there was enough food to give away to every in need. More than 30 people were able to benefit from this food drive and organizers say they’re hoping to help more.
Darrin Brazil is an alumnus who helped arrange the food drive. He said the important thing right now is being there for the Fordyce community and showing up for those who need it the most.
"We wanted to come together as a school district as an alumnus and just show our community that were here, we love you and regardless of what we go through everything comes to make us strong," Brazil said.
