Free back-to-school supplies to be handed out in Centre County

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Representative Paul Takac (D-Centre) and the YMCA of Centre County have collected school supplies that they'll be handing out to families who need them this weekend.

The Back-To-School distribution event will take place on Sunday, Aug. 11 at the State College YMCA facility (667 W. Whitehall Road) from 3 to 5 p.m. Takac and the YMCA have been gathering supplies since the end of June, to equip local students for the coming school year.

"Every child deserves to start the school year on the right foot, fully equipped for success," Takac said. "Over the last several weeks, our office has worked with the community to help ensure that every student in Centre County has the tools they need to thrive."

"Our Back-to-School Event is completely free and open to the community. Families can enjoy our Wibit aquatic obstacle course, a cookout, slushies from Sunset Slush Happy Valley, basketball, and school supplies.
