INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Animal Care Services will waive adoption fees for dogs and cats during its weekend Summer Sidekicks event.
The event will be from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the animal shelter, 5001 E. Raymond St. The city government-operated shelter opened in May and is double the size of its previous facility.
Adoption fees, which usually cost $60, will be waived for every animal. Each pet is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before going home.
The shelter on Monday had 175 dogs and 50 cats available. While the shelter provides daily care and medical attention, staff members say adoptions are the best way the community can help the facility continue its work.
Director Amanda Dehoney said in a news release that the Indianapolis Animal Care Services team is ready to help people find pets that fits their households’ specific lifestyles, whether they want an active “adventure buddy” or a quiet companion. “Every adoption gives an animal a fresh start while creating space for the next pet that needs our care,” Dehoney said.
Dogs will be shown to visitors until 6:30 p.m. both days. Interested residents can learn more about fostering, volunteering, and view adoptable animal...
