Garage catches fire at Chula Vista home

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Crews responded to reports of a house fire in the South Bay Sunday afternoon, said the Chula Vista Fire Department.

According to Battalion Chief David Albright, multiple calls came in sometime after noon about a garage fire at a residence on the 400 block of Willowcrest Way.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the fiery garage with flames that were reported to be burning through the roof of the house.

"The fire ultimately spread to the back room and kind of burned the whole left side of the structure," said Chief Albright.

The fire has since been put out.

Two people were people evaluated for smoke inhalation, but were not transported to the hospital. The Red Cross is assisting the family impacted by the fire.

No firefighters were injured during this response.

The origins and cause of the fire remain under investigation. No further details were immediately provided.
