SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) -- Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has changed his tune on former President Donald Trump, saying during his monthly press conference with Utah reporters that he would be voting for the former president in November's election.
Just last week, during an appearance on CNN, Cox had reaffirmed his refusal to vote for Trump instead opting to write in a candidate.
Cox said he wrote a personal letter to Donald Trump earlier this week after the assassination attempt in Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 13. Cox said in the letter he expressed his feelings of support for the Republican nominee saying he would help him in "turning down the temperature" in the American political climate.
"I think [the letter] explains very well where my heart is and where my head is, right now," Cox said.
When asked by Utah reporters, Cox confirmed he would be voting for Donald Trump but added that the former president likely wouldn't need his help to win the White House in November.
