Gulf Coast back-to-school: What not to share on social media

DAPHNE, Ala. (WKRG) — Each year on the first day of school, many parents take to social media to post pictures of their kids returning to the classroom, often leaving traces of crucial information that suspicious people could grab onto.

"When it involves kids, you always want to be safe and air on the side of caution," Daphne Police Lt. Jason Lazzari said.

The captions used in a post are often the most important things to look out for, Lazzari said. A well-crafted caption would diminish the footprint left behind from a first-day-of-school post.

"You never know who is looking at your social media account," Lazzari said. "You always want to be careful and post the most limited or less amount of information on there as possible."
