SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) -- When you think of Utah, you may think of mountains, lakes, or skiing -- but what about sauerkraut?
For one Utah city, the fermented cabbage is so important to its history that the city revived a tradition to honor sauerkraut with a week of activities and celebrations during its Sauerkraut Days festival.
The city of Providence, Utah, is holding its third annual "reincarnated" Sauerkraut Days from Aug. 12 to Aug. 17 this year -- but why is the city obsessed with sauerkraut?
"The annual sauerkraut celebration ties back to the early 1900s and the traditions of the German and Swiss settlers of Providence," the city said in a press release. "The making of sauerkraut has been a time-honored tradition in Providence, one that is carried on for Sauerkraut Days by Bear River Bottling Company."
