SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A month ago, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was little known outside of the Land of 10,000 Lakes. But now he’s bringing a surge of excitement to the Kamala Harris campaign, including here in Utah.
Mason Hughes, communications director for the Utah Democratic Party, said that since Harris tapped Walz to be her running mate on Monday, people have been picking up Uthans for Harris yard signs from the party’s Salt Lake City headquarters every hour.
“When I came into the office yesterday to open it up, there were already four people outside the door, waiting to get signs,” Hughes said on Thursday. “The energy is palpable.”
Hughes said he was “ecstatic” that Harris picked Walz, noting that his record in Minnesota is something that could excite family-oriented Utahns, especially when it came to providing free breakfast and lunch for schoolchildren and paid family leave.
