SAN BENITO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Nothing sounds better than waking up to freshly made barbacoa on a sunny Sunday morning.
Barbacoa is made of the meat from the head of the cow, usually the cheek. It is slowly cooked with seasonings, shredded and best enjoyed with a flour or corn tortilla.
For many across the Valley, it is more than just a meal; it brings families together to enjoy a hearty meal on the weekends.
We asked our viewers who has the best barbacoa and they delivered. For this month's Best of the RGV segment, our viewers voted Hernandez Tortilleria as the best barbacoa in the Valley.
"Everything you eat here or pick up is made here at the location," Viviana Hernandez, owner of Hernandez Tortilleria, said.
However, Hernandez said their barbacoa is undoubtedly the star of the show.
"The barbacoa is delicious, it surprises me every Sunday. I always think maybe I'll try something different but I just keep coming back to our barbacoa because it's something that is so rich in taste and it's really popular," she said.
