HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The annual Hiroshima Commemoration and Peace Service took place at the Izumo Taishakyo Mission of Hawaii on Tuesday morning.
The ceremony began with a blessing, Shinto purification and special messages from community and religious leaders. All attendees were given the opportunity to ring the Hiroshima Peace Bell replica to show their support for world peace.
The peace bell replica was a gift from Hiroshima, Japan to the people of Hawaii in recognition of their strong relationship following World War II.
The peace service marks the 79th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing.
