PARIS, France (KMID/KPEJ) - Midland native Bryce Hoppel is coming back to West Texas empty-handed after missing the podium in Paris by 0.17 seconds in the men's 800-meter final. Hoppel ran a personal-best 1:41.67, finishing in fourth.
Despite the disappointing result, Hoppel returns to West Texas as the fastest American in the 800-meter and fourth-fastest in the world.
Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi won gold with a time of 1:41.19.
Hoppel, 26, graduated from Midland High School.
