GRAND COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) -- An inmate died while in custody at the Grand County Jail on Friday, July 19, according to the Grand County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office said the inmate died from "unknown medical reasons." It said authorities conducted life-saving measures on the inmate but were unable to save their life.
While the family has been notified of the death, officials are choosing not to release the inmate's name publicly at this time "due to the ongoing investigation and out of respect for the privacy of the individuals involved."
"We assure the public that transparency and accountability remain our utmost priorities as we continue to cooperate fully with the investigating agencies," the GCSO said. "We express our deepest condolences to those affected by this unfortunate event."
