Isolated afternoon storms to bring heavy rain, gusty winds, and flash flooding risk

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) - Happy Friday, Utah! It's almost time for the weekend. Our weather pattern will begin to turn more active as monsoon moisture increases across the entire state.

Areas of showers and storms are expected to develop again, especially for parts of central and southern Utah.

A ridge of high pressure near the Four Corners and an upper-level low to the southwest is allowing for Utah's typical monsoon setup as moisture pushes into the state. We will keep this routine as monsoon moisture lingers through the weekend and into next week.

We are expecting pop-up afternoon thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours, and these storms will potentially produce brief periods of heavy rain, gusty winds, possible microburst winds, and plenty of lightning.
