SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah (ABC4 Sports) - Kelsey Chugg joined an elite group of golfers as six-time winners of the Utah State Am.
Chugg won a tight battle with Ali Mulhall, 1 up, to win the tournament played at Talon's Cove Golf Course Saturday afternoon.
Chugg joins Florence Halloran, Helen Hofmann Bertagnole, Mary Lou Baker and Marcia Thayne as six-time winners. Only Beverly Nelson has more Utah State Am wins with eight.
"It's insane," said Chugg, who is now the associate director of Salt Lake City Golf. "I feel like I've been playing for a long time now. I'm getting old, but it's pretty cool. I was feeling really good about my game coming into this week, and I just played really steady."
Only five of the 18 holes in the championship match were won by either golfer, with thirteen holes shared.
Chugg and Mulhall were tied going into the 18th hole, when Mulhall's approach shot sailed into the bunker. While Chugg parred the hole, Muhall's 15-foot par putt was wide, giving Chugg her sixth victory.
"I'm so excited," Chugg said. "Nothing's guaranteed. Obviously, I've won five over the years...
