Lawmakers advance transgender bathroom ban
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Students at all public schools and universities would have to use bathrooms and locker rooms that match their sex assigned at birth under legislation moving through the Indiana General Assembly.
A Senate panel this week signed off on a bill to require all birth certificates to match a person’s sex assigned at birth rather than their gender identity and to require the Department of Correction to incarcerate people in facilities that match their sex at birth. The committee added language that requires students at public schools and universities to use bathrooms, changing areas, locker rooms and showers that match their sex assigned at birth if those facilities are designed for use by more than one person.
