LDS sister missionary dies in Haiti from 'sudden' medical complications, officials say

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) -- A sister missionary serving in Haiti for the Utah-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints died on Friday, Aug. 2, from medical complications, a church spokesman announced Tuesday.

Spokesman Sam Penrod said Jenny Lucas, 26, was serving in the Haiti Port-au-Prince Mission when she died from "what is believed to be sudden complications related to a preexisting medical condition."

Lucas was from Pétion-Ville, Haiti, which is located 8 miles away from Port-au-Prince. She had begun her anticipated 18-month service at the beginning of the year.

Church officials did not provide additional information on the cause of her death.
