SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) -- The wildfire burning in Box Elder County’s Hogup Mountains has been named the “Tangent Fire,” and officials say it has grown to 473 acres as of Tuesday afternoon.
Utah Fire Info said that local and state crews are battling the fire, which was spotted Monday in the mountains immediately west of the Great Salt Lake’s North Arm. So far, the blaze is 0% contained.
A lightning strike caused the fire, officials determined. It has burned mostly on state and private lands.
Since the fire has road access, crews were flown to the scene. Resources devoted to the fire have included five engines, a helitak crew, two water tenders, two dozers, and one hand crew.
Much of Box Elder County, along with most of western Utah, is under fire restrictions as any stray sparks could lead to wildfires amid the recent hot and dry conditions. According to fire officials, <...
