Little Rock businesses adapting to the heat

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Walking through the warmth of the Arkansauna is hard enough, but working in it turns up the heat.

Those with jobs exposed to the elements say one has to bring the cool with them when outside is hot because ignoring how the heat affects the body is dangerous.

Some of the most troubled waters Victory Plumbing owner Travis Victory has to fix are those from a heat wave.

"Being in the industry 21 years, I have had twice where I've fallen out from the heat, so it's nothing we take lightly," Victory said.

From company credit cards on tap to purchase water, ice, and coolers to more creative ways to make the outdoors feel a little more like the indoors, Victory invests in ways to keep his team cool. 

Canopy tents are our best friend, so out here in the heat, 8 hours a day. Basically, this is your air conditioning," he said.

On Wednesday a little bit of shade made a big difference. A laser thermometer measured the temperature on the sunlit ground at around 120 degrees, but under their canopy, the temperature was in the mid-80s.
