Local delegates head to Republican National Convention

ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — More than 2,500 delegates are at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this week. Among them are Senator Judy Ward and her son Bill.

At the convention on Monday, former President Donald Trump was officially selected as the Republican Presidential Nominee. Ward said that even before the shooting on Saturday, the party knew what they wanted.

"I just think seeing the professionalism and the way he handled himself after the assassination attempt really solidified it for everyone," Judy Ward, (R) 30th District said.

Judy Ward, who serves Blair, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata and Mifflin Counties, described the convention's atmosphere as positive and energetic, and it's not her first time attending. However, she said this convention feels a little different.

"There's just so much more, there's just a spirit of electricity in the air but this has just really bonded people together. People feel so in-sync and together and they're just proud," she said.

Her son, also a delegate for Pennsylvania, said that he was excited about J.D. Vance as Trump's Vice President pick.
