Local leaders react to Pres. Biden dropping out of 2024 race

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — In a letter posted to his X account on Sunday, President Joe Biden notified his fellow Americans that he would be stepping down from the 2024 Presidential Race.

Shortly after he announced that he would be leaving the race, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic Nominee.

WTAJ reached out to several local leaders and officials to balance out the coverage when it comes to political parties. First, we spoke to the Chairpersons for the Democratic and Republican Committee's of Blair County.

"What I've observed among local democrats, democrats all over the state, really is that people were split pretty 50-50, whether you know they wanted the President to step aside, whether they thought that he should stay and at the end of the day, I think we're all going to support a candidate that's going to stop Donald Trump," said Gillian Kratzer, Chairperson for the Blair County Democratic Committee.

Since President Biden's endorsement, several democrats have also backed and supported VP Harris, including Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
