Man accused of scamming at least 33 victims in Brownsville turns himself in

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man accused of scamming at least 33 people in Brownsville is now in custody.

Diego Amir Paz was arrested on a charge of theft, a state jail felony, according to Brownsville jail records.

Brownsville police announced Tuesday they were searching for Paz, who had an active arrest warrant. According to police, Paz had been falsely claiming to work for a business inside the Port of Brownsville, and was promising people jobs for a fee of $200.

"So far, 33 victims that have been scammed have come forward," police said.

On Wednesday morning, police shared that Paz was arrested after turning himself in.
