DENVER (KDVR) — A man's body was recovered from the Lone Eagle Peak area in the Indian Peaks Wilderness on Wednesday after first responders were notified of an overdue climber on Tuesday morning.
Grand County dispatchers and the Boulder County Sheriff's Office received notifications of an overdue climber around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The climber was reportedly near Crater Lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness, which is part of the Arapaho and Rosevelt National Forests.
According to the Grand County Sheriff's Office, first responders were told that the climber intended to go from the Brainard Lake Recreation Area to Pawnee Pass, to Crater Lake then up to Lone Eagle Peak, crossing to Apache Peak, and returning to Brainard. Because his route was more in Grand County, agencies from that county took the lead on the recovery and search efforts.
At about 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, hikers reported finding a deceased man near Lone Eagle Peak. A helicopter assisted the Grand County Search and Rescue team with relaying crews close to the area. However, search and recovery operations were suspended at 3 p.m. on Tuesday because of...
