LA MESA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A man with multiple gunshot wounds died in the driveway of an apartment complex in La Mesa Saturday, authorities said.
According to the La Mesa Police Department, a call came in just after midnight reporting a person down in the 7500 block of High Street. The caller told police they saw a man staggering across the street before he collapsed on the ground.
Responding officers found the victim with several gunshot wounds to the upper torso, the department explained. Officers and fire department crews attempted to give the man first aid but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of family.
Based on their initial investigation, it does not appear that the victim, a 25-year-old La Mesa resident, was shot while out on the street. Additionally, there were no calls reporting gunfire in the area.
A light-colored sedan was seen driving westbound on High Street shortly before the victim was seen staggering across the street, police said. It's unknown, however, if that vehicle is related to this incident.
