DENVER (KDVR) — A man who hit four first responders on Interstate 76 in Commerce City in a DUI crash in December was sentenced on Friday.
Benjamin Winters, 24, appeared in court on Friday, Aug. 9, where he was sentenced to serve four years in prison and three years of parole. He pleaded guilty on May 15 to one count of vehicular assault – DUI, and three counts of third-degree assault – of a first responder.
Winters was the driver on the night of Dec. 7, 2023, when a Toyota Tacoma traveled into the scene of a single-vehicle crash on westbound I-76, hitting two South Adams County firefighters and two Commerce City police officers.
Fortunately, all survived the crash.
