Man wielding metal pole arrested after threatening deputy, striking bystander

A man was arrested after allegedly threatening bystanders and a deputy with a metal pole in San Bernardino County.

On Tuesday, authorities responded to the intersection of Chamberlaine Way and Aster Road in Adelanto at around 8:33 a.m.

Witnesses said the suspect, Luis Perez, 34, was hiding in bushes before running toward vehicles and attempting to smash them with a large metal pole.

At one point, Perez jumped onto a passing car and struck the roof several times before jumping off. 

When deputies arrived at the scene, Perez reportedly threw a 4-foot metal pole at them and attempted to run away.

After a short foot pursuit, Perez was taken into custody without further incident.

He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment and is being held on $70,000 bail.
