MC offers free oil and gas career courses

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) - Midland College is now offering free courses related to oil and gas careers, as part of a grant from Texas Mutual Insurance.

Courses available to students include risk management and pipeline basics.

"We do see an influx of people who don't live in the area, of course, come in and want to work. But I think it's very important to focus on our community and helping those individuals upscale or rescale able to get deployment in that field especially since that is what runs the Permian Basin," said Chelsy Gann, Director of Workforce in Petroleum Development Center.

Officials with Midland College said they hope free courses like these can help keep local talent here in the local community.
