MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- Midland County Commissioner Luis Sanchez announced the grand opening of the West County Road 120 extension to Midkiff Road; A construction project that began a year and a half ago.
The WCR 120 Extension project opened on Wednesday, July 17, and was celebrated with an official ribbon cutting.
The West County Road 120 Extension project is valued at $2.8 million and spans just over a mile to help give drivers direct access from Midkiff Road to the Southern part of Loop 250 without traveling through county neighborhoods.
Midland County Commissioner Luis Sanchez reported in a press release, that this project will lessen the burden on local neighborhoods and help provide better transit for residents. "It not only improves connectivity but also enhances the quality of life for our community members by reducing travel time and providing more direct routes.”
Commissioner Sanchez also emphasized the importance of the long-term benefits, such as increased assessability, making it crucial for emergencies and improving response times.
The new road is also reported to be a part of a broader goal; To expand and improve infrastructure South of the interstate and support future economic development to make the area more attractive for new business and housing developments.
