MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) - The Midland City Council approved several major items at its meeting on Tuesday, June 25, including new fields at the Scharbauer Sports Complex, new lights in Downtown Midland, as well as the approval to replat land for the new zoo.

The Council approved a professional services agreement with Field Turf USA Inc. to design two new fields at the Scharbauer Sports Complex on Tuesday. The City said this design will include two artificial turf football/soccer fields, parking areas, sidewalks, fencing, drainage improvements, irrigation, and landscaping.

Councilmembers also approved a resolution for the purchase of string lights and poles from Wholesale Electric Company of Houston Inc., to be used in downtown Midland. This is part of a project to "revitalize and beautify downtown Midland."

The Midland City Council also approved to replat the area just west of Loop 250 and just north of 191. This area will be developed into nine commercial lots and one lot for the future Midland Zoo.

"The Preserve is great for Midland because they'll be able to have businesses out there, eateries, they're gonna have a trail around the zoo so locals can walk around. It's gonna be really exciting for this town," said Councilwoman Amy Stretcher Burkes.
