MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- MISD shared its condolences after the death of Mr. Ken Marks, a man who is said to have made a long-lasting impact on the Midland community.
According to Brent D. McCullough of Midland Independent School District in a Facebook post, "MISD is saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Ken Marks,' and is "grateful to Mr. Marks for his contributions" that were made to the school district.
MISD stated that Mr. Ken Marks was on the MISD school board and President from 1988 to 1992, served on the Region 18 board for 28 years, and played a big role in the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes).
According to the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) Hall of Champions website, Mr. Ken Marks started the first FCA huddle in 1983- right in the Permian Basin and served the area for decades as a Huddle sponsor at Midland Lee High School.
The FCA also said that when Lee High School did not have an area director of staff to rely on, Marks served as the Huddle sponsor for more than 30 years with his wife, Mary Lee.
The FCA and people who met Marks stated that he was a committed member of the community and had a 'spiritual commitment to the coaches.' the FCA stated that "many athletes over the past three decades or more can attribute the beginning of their relationship with Christ to Marks."
