MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) - Midland ISD announced "a significant increase" in teacher and bus driver staffing rates for the current school year. As of Thursday, the district said it has achieved a 98 percent fill rate, which is a three percent increase from the fill rate on the first day of school last year.
Additionally, MISD currently has a 100 percent fill rate for bus drivers, a significant improvement over the 72 percent rate from the beginning of last year. The school district said this is especially important as more than 20 percent of district students rely on bus transportation.
"We are incredibly proud of the progress we've made as a district in filling these critical positions," said Brandon Reyes, Chief of Human Capital. “We strive to be the premier employer in the Permian Basin, and our department is focusing much effort on retention and recruitment.”
Midland ISD also said 20 campuses have no teacher vacancies, while 13 campuses only have one or two teacher vacancies each, highlighting the district's retention and recruitment strategies.
