MMH receives national recognition for its commitment to heart attack healthcare in the Permian Basin

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The Midland Memorial Hospital announced its national recognition from the American Heart Association for its commitment to health care for heart attacks in the Permian Basin.

The recognition comes from the AHA (American Heart Association), which recognizes hospitals and organizations that have demonstrated commitment to quality care and improvement through several measured criteria- criteria that MMH has achieved and been recognized for

The Midland Memorial Hospital was awarded the STEMI Receiving Center Gold Plus recognition- an award for its commitment to offering fast, research-based care to people experiencing a specific and more severe type of heart attack known as an ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Abhinav Goyal, a professor in the Department of Cardiology at Emory School of Medicine and Chief Quality Officer for the Emory Heart and Vascular Center said that facilities that thrive in this type of care are crucial. 

“Effective and timely care is crucial for patients experiencing a STEMI heart attack. The American Heart Association’s guidelines call for specific interventions for these patients both in-hospital and post-hospitalization,” Goyal said. 

The STEMI Receiving Center award was designed to showcase the hospitals that provide this 24/7 support for STEMI and award them for their treatment of patients with the most up-to-date research-based guidelines.
