MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile Police Department is looking to hire up to five more community resource officers, better known as crossing guards, for the 2024-2025 school year.
Right now, MPD has 50 CROs directing traffic in Mobile County Public Schools' 46 school zones. They have an important job to help students safely travel to and from school.
“Whether it be at school zones or extra events throughout the city throughout the year," Community Resource Officer Supervisor Amanda Lutman said. "We assist with 5Ks, runs, South Alabama games."
The department is offering part-time positions that begin at $17.22 an hour, with paid on-the-job training. 20-hour weeks are guaranteed Monday through Friday, and CROs are off on the weekends and during the summer.
