ELK COUNTY (WTAJ) — Ridgway is known around the United States for its rifle club and silhouette shooting range and this week they are hosting the small bore and high power national silhouette championships.
This year, there are shooters from 36 different states and multiple international competitors which provides a huge boost to the Ridgway economy.
"It fills up hotels, they stay in houses, camps are very good for the economy. For every dollar the rifle club takes in, it is estimated that the shooter spends $42 a day more downtown," Chief Executive Range Officer Ken Haupricht said.
Since the range is well known around the nation, the rifle club still manages to help the Ridgway community when there aren't national competitions.
"We have many people from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York that sell their houses up there because they're not gun-friendly states and have bought houses in Ridgway. They're now residents of Elk County and they come here because of the range itself," Haupricht said.
