Scores of sea lions are being sickened by a neurotoxin created by an algal bloom, according to the Channel Islands Marine & Wildlife Institute.

Starting on Friday, CIMWI’s phone "started ringing off the hook with 100 reports a day of sick sea lions in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties," the nonprofit said in a press release.
