Nick Herbig remains student of the game with Steelers

The NFL preseason continues this week with a full slate of games, and in Pittsburgh, there's a strong Hawaii presence with five players born in the islands, including second-year linebacker Nick Herbig.

After a strong debut season with three sacks, playing alongside stars like T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Joey Porter Jr., the Saint Louis School graduate is eager to make an impact in the exhibition season.

"You know, obviously we have vets in the room, and any time the young guys, especially myself, get an opportunity like that to go out there and showcase what we've been working on all offseason, all our life, basically leading up to this point, I think I just got to make the most of the opportunities," Herbig said.

Recently, Herbig, a former Cover2 Defensive Player of the Year who played collegiately at Wisconsin, ended a training camp practice by getting tips from five-time Pro Bowler James Harrison.

"I kind of got to ask him some questions, pick his brain about the little things about pass-rushing and just playing football in general," Herbig said. "He was just basically talking about how he went about his business, how he got so successful, trying to give me little tips and pointers about the little things. Just the little things that I could do and implement in my game."
