North Little Rock police officials say officer fired gun during traffic stop, driver being sought

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – An officer with the North Little Rock Police Department is on administrative leave after firing his gun during a traffic stop, according to authorities.

Authorities with NLRPD sent a release Friday morning saying an officer was conducting a traffic stop near the intersection of East Washington Avenue and Birch Street shortly after midnight when he discharged his gun at least one time.

Department officials said the driver of the car was alone in the vehicle and ran away from the scene. After a search of the area by officers, the driver was still not located.

Police said no injuries were reported in the incident. The beginning stages of an investigation into the incident is currently underway by detectives with NLRPD.
