Ohio motorcyclist's name released in fatal Lincoln County crash

LINCOLN COUNTY, S.D. (KELO) -- A Homeworth, Ohio man's name has been released after he was killed in a motorcycle-truck crash on Tuesday, five miles south of Lennox.

60-year-old Jerry A. Shafer died in a crash on US. Hwy 18.

Jerry L. Wallenstein, 68, of Sioux Falls was driving his Chevrolet Silverado, eastbound on US 18 in the left turning lane to turn northbound onto 466th Avenue.

Shafer, was driving his Harley Davidson westbound on US 18. The Silverado collided with the motorcycle, ejecting Shafer, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.

According to court documents, Wallenstein is facing vehicular homicide, DWI, reckless driving and failure to yield charges. Wallenstein was under the influence of marijuana and another unnamed drug, according to the the state’s attorney. No alcohol had been detected.

Wallenstein and his passenger were not injured. They were both wearing seatbelts.
