UNION COUNTY, S.D. (KELO) -- One man died and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday at 1:47 p.m. on I-29 in North Sioux City, SD.
According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, a 69-year-old male driver of a Ford Escape was traveling northbound on I-29. He was driving slow through congested traffic while entering a construction zone.
A 57-year-old male driver of a Lexus Rx350 was traveling northbound on I-29 at highway speeds. He collided with the rear of the Escape, causing it to enter the median and roll.
The Lexus went across the southbound lane and collided with a fence in the west ditch where it came to rest.
Both drivers were transported to a Sioux City hospital. The driver of the Escape died from his injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Lexus suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
The name of the man killed has not been released pending notification of family members.
