SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance has announced the passing of 52-year-old gorilla, Winston. He was one of the oldest male gorillas in captivity in the world.
Western lowland Silverback gorilla Winston passed away on Saturday, July 13 at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The zoo wildlife alliance says wildlife health and care teams made the difficult decision to euthanize him after complications from his worsening conditions.
According to the zoo, Winston had been receiving significant medical treatments for several age-related conditions like heart disease, degenerative joint disease and kidney disease.
